Two good approaches to keeping files in sync

Yavisynker and Syncthing

Syncthing is an excellent project: free, open source, cross-platform, and flexible. If you enjoy configuring your tools, it may be exactly what you need. Yavisynker focuses on simple, supported direct sync between Windows PCs.

Capabilities and pricing, checked September 2026
CapabilityYavisynkerSyncthing
ArchitectureDirect encrypted device-to-device sync; hosted account, presence, and signaling. No cloud file copy. Both peers must be directly reachable.Peer-to-peer encrypted sync, discovery, NAT traversal, and optional encrypted relays. No central file storage.
PlatformsWindows 10 and 11 today.Windows, macOS, Linux, BSD and others.
VersioningPaid plans and Pro preview: opt-in local history per folder and device; configurable staggered retention.Free built-in versioning: trash can, simple, staggered, and external strategies. Configured per folder and device for incoming changes.
Ignore patternsBuilt-in exclusions for dot-prefixed paths, temporary files, and Windows metadata. Custom ignore patterns are not available yet.Configurable .stignore patterns, including wildcards and other matching rules.
SetupA guided setup designed for about 3 minutes: sign in, name your PCs, choose folders. No device-ID exchange or manual NAT tuning in the app.Exchange device IDs or use supported discovery/introduction options, then share folders. More configuration and control. NAT traversal is automatic where supported.
TrustPeer identity keys pinned by default on first connection. Files and history are readable on your trusted devices.Authenticated device identities and an untrusted-device encryption option for encrypted remote copies.
Price & devicesFree: 2 devices. Pro: USD 29 one-time at launch (regular USD 39), 10 devices. Studio: USD 149 one-time, 30 devices. Fleet: USD 299/year, 256-device technical ceiling.Free and open source. No commercial device limit; practical performance still depends on hardware and network.
SupportA supported product from Atlas Studio Digital. Priority support on paid plans.Community forum, documentation, and an open-source community.

A 3-minute setup is a design target, not a network guarantee. Restrictive networks can prevent Yavisynker’s direct connections. Syncthing’s relays can be useful in those conditions. Yavisynker does not offer Syncthing’s untrusted-device encryption mode.
